Google does not like duplicate or copy content. It makes it very difficult for its spiders to confirm which copy is the authoritative copy. Sometimes a minor issues with site configuration in your CMS can make Google or other Search Engine think you have multiple web pages that say the same thing. A Site Audit will be able to resolve this.

Even more important things, you should can make your own content to be unique and not a copy or a badly-disguised spin of other content. Google would much prefer to catalog something new and rank it highly than something it has seen over on a bunch of other web pages.

Google SEO On-Page Ranking Factor List 2015 Version

Roger Montti, aka martinibuster, posted a thread at WebmasterWorld about a revised list of on-page SEO factors that he thinks are more important now in 2015, also with a list of those factors that are no longer important or as important.

The factors he put on the list as being more important in 2015 are:

    User experience metrics (all of them)
    Shorter title tags
    Original content
    Engaging content that provides an answer, teaches, informs, is useful, delights
    Original images
    Quality site design
    Descriptive meta description

The factors that he would go as far as to call deprecated, as in, no longer used by Google are:

    Keywords
    Focus on longtail phrases
    Focus on ranking for specific keyword phrases
    Lean code

Types of Errors in SEO

Important HTTP Status Codes for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engines:
  • 404: File Not Found
  • 503: Service Unavailable
  • 204: No Response
  • 401: Unauthorized
  • 402: Payment Required
  • 403: Forbidden
  • 501: Not Implemented
  • 503: Gateway Timeout
  • 301: Redirected to other web pages
  • 100 - Informational: Request has been received and the process is continuing.
  • 200 - Ok Success: Request was received and processed successfully.
  • 300 - Redirection: Request has been received, but needs to perform an additional step to complete the request.
  • 400 - Bad Request: Request was made by the client, but the page is not valid.
  • 500 - Server Error: Valid request was made by the client, but the server failed to complete the request.

SEO On Page Optimization Techniques

SEO On-Page Optimization refers to all the things that you can do ON your website to help you rank higher, such as page meta titles, internal linking, meta tags & descriptions, etc.

  • Meta Tags: For each of your pages, you can include a set of keywords in the form of meta tags. These should be all the relevant keywords of your content, which you will have researched previously.

What is Cross Linking?

Cross linking refers to the process of linking between two websites. Whether or not they are owned by the same person, cross linking is the process on which the internet is built. It allows users to reference sites with content similar to that which they are already viewing, and may be of further interest to them.

Cross linking also serves an interesting purpose in terms of search engine optimization.
